The XIVth International Symposium on Retinal Degenerations will be held in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada on July 13 - 17, 2010. The venue is the Fairmont Tremblant Hotel. In choosing this site, we wanted a comfortable facility where the scientific presentations could be held, where all attendees could be housed and where all meals could be provided. Such facilities allow for maximum interaction of all attendees during the time of the meeting. In addition to providing these conditions, the Fairmont Tremblant Hotel hosts additional amenities that will further cultivate interactions (see Mont-Tremblant Info). An exciting scientific program on all aspects of retinal degeneration is being organized for the meeting. As in the past, the program will include both poster and platform presentations. The platform sessions will be organized around specific themes, and talks will be selected from abstracts submitted by participants. We anticipate that the themes will include "Molecular and genetic mechanisms in photoreceptor degeneration," "Age-related macular degeneration," "New diagnostic techniques for retinal degenerations," "Neuroprotection in the prevention of retinal degeneration," "Gene therapy and the correction of gene defects," as well as other emerging topics that may develop over the next few months. Platform presentations will be scheduled for 20 minutes each, followed by 10 minutes for discussion. Those individuals not selected for a platform presentation are invited to present their research in well attended poster sessions. Posters will be available for viewing throughout the meeting, and there will be several sessions completely devoted to poster discussions. Three Keynote Lectures will be featured in the RD2010 scientific program. We have invited three leading figures in the study of retinal degenerative diseases, Elise Héon, M.D., Gregory Hageman, Ph.D. and Jayakrishna Ambati, M.D. Based on their combined expertise in ocular genetics, retinitis pigmentosa, age-related macular degeneration, and inflammation, these three lecturers will provide a broad prospective on the diagnosis, cause, and future treatments of retinal degenerative diseases. Each RD2010 attendee is encouraged to submit a chapter for publication in the Proceedings Volume. Author instructions and information on how/where to format the chapters will be made available later. For location, travel, weather, attire and other general meeting information, be sure to see the Mont-Tremblant Information Section. Women and underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply for Travel Awards and to attend the meeting. We are excited about the RD2010 meeting and look forward to seeing you there. Matthew M.
